About us:
With branches in Rockhampton, Mackay and Barcaldine and a site office in Emerald, the Transport and Main Roads Program Delivery and Operations (PDO) Central Queensland Region (CQ Region) looks after 9076km of state-controlled roads and about 1510km of the National Road Network. This role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program (QTRIP).
The CQ Region covers an area of about 604,824km2, approximately 34.9% of Queensland. Its landscape ranges from beautiful coastal areas adjoining the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests to the rugged outback with breathtaking rock formations. The region has an estimated residential population of 422,141 people.

The Role:
In the role of Inspector (Roadworks) you will inspect new construction works, routine, programmed, rehabilitation and reactive maintenance contracts, third party road corridor works such as public utility plant and developer works and support the management of critical incident and declared disaster events, ensuring delivery of high standards of quality, economy, governance and safety are achieved.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Develop a complete understanding of the Contract, and the Contractor's proposed construction methods and planned sequencing of the works.
• Provide technical support, advice, knowledge, and experience to achieve effective outcomes from sole invitee, local government, and open contracts.
• Conduct surveillance inspections of contractor's work, processes, temporary traffic management, quality, environmental controls and safety, to ensure compliance with specification, legislative requirements, and contract conditions.
• Maintain detailed records (diaries, test results, photos) and reports to a high standard.
• Provide regular advice to the Contract Administrator or their representative on contractor performance and general project progress.
• Independently conduct road infrastructure hazard/defect identification surveys and provide advice on prioritisation and appropriate remediation treatments.
• Actively participate in disaster pre-season preparedness sessions and undertake training. Gain understanding of road/structure re-opening procedure post-flooding.
• Investigate complaints and requests for action from the public in relation to road network operations.
• Attend, participate and contribute at all necessary contractual meetings, including partnering/relationship workshops.
• Assist with the development and review of surveillance plans and provide input on their suitability for the works being performed.
• Onsite field supervision for the investigation, location, and relocation of existing Public Utility Plant (PUP).
• Actively participate in the Roadworks Inspector Career Development Program (RICDP) and any training associated with the program.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
• Current 'Class C' driver license.
Desirable qualifications:
• Possession of a Certificate III in Civil Construction.
