Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.

As a senior biosecurity officer, you will deliver operational services that protect Queensland from the impacts of high-risk invasive species. With Queensland being affected by more biosecurity incursions than any other Australian state or territory, your efforts will be integral in helping the government prevent, respond to and recover from invasive species incursions that threaten human health, social amenity, our economy and environment.

You will know you're achieving success in the role when you:
• Are dedicated to mitigating the impacts of invasive species on Queensland's economy and environment.
• Working effectively to prevent the establishment of invasive species and supporting stakeholders to manage invasive species.
• Are actively contributing as a senior member of a high-performing team.

There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must:
• Possess an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or higher qualification) in a elevant field or equivalent.
• Possess a current “C” class drivers' licence.
• Commit to obtain vaccinations (or provide evidence of prior vaccinations) for diseases such as Q fever.

This role requires the ability to travel intrastate and work outside normal business hours. Previous experience in undertaking invasive species management and investigations is highly regarded.
