As part of the Safety, Health and Wellbeing team, the Principal Advisor Safety Health & Wellbeing is responsible for the effective delivery of professional work health and safety services across the department.

Using your knowledge and expertise, you will be responsible for partnering, promoting, and delivering best practice WHS safety services and support across the department. Your knowledge of WHS management is exemplar as are your strategies, programs and initiatives that are focused on engaging with regional teams that collaboratively enhance the safety of all employees. To support your objectives, this role will have two direct reports (Senior Safety and Wellbeing Advisor)

As Principal Advisor Safety Health & Wellbeing, you will specifically:

• Develop positive business leader relationships and provide strategic and technical high-level advice to the Manager Health Safety & Wellbeing, senior leaders and broader management teams on safety matters.
• Manage and provide expert advice on matters relating to work health and safety and or complex workplace matters through working collaboratively with all stakeholders and is recognised as a reference point for workplace safety within the department.
• Promote and provide support to DYJVS service centres and offices in reporting all incidents and hazards including provision of support during the investigation process and management of regulatory notifiable incidents.
• Develop and implement strategies and action plans, in consultation with DYJVS service centres, to ensure the delivery of appropriate safety mitigation activities, assurance and compliance activities as well as education and awareness training sessions for staff, managers, and supervisors.
• Provide expert advice and relevant supporting material, to the DYJVS service centres and offices, workplace health and safety committees, Health and Safety Representatives, managers, and teams by the provision of relevant WHS information and promoting and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
• Monitor trends in injuries and incidents and prepare high level detailed reports and briefing papers that provide a comprehensive position of the department's safety processes and the provision of recommendations for managing identified WHS safety issues and or matters.
• Monitor and interpret relevant work health and safety legislative developments and practices and ensure integration into the departments relevant policies, procedures and processes through collaboration and consultation with all DYJVS stakeholders.
• Undertake regular reviews of the DYJVS Safety Management System including researching, developing, updating and publishing policies and procedures, to ensure fit for purpose as well as compliance to relevant legislation and establish audit and governance processes supported by the identification and development of resources including guidance material and fact sheets.
• Manage, review and enhance the DYJVS assurance activities including workplace inspections, safety audits, and the departments WHS registers including the WHS Risk Register and provide detailed compliance reports.
• Liaise with other government agencies, statutory authorities, professional organisations, unions, and external service providers in the management of issues affecting safety issues.
• Coach and mentor a small team of Senior Safety Advisor's in delivering best practice and client focused safety services.
