Reporting to the Chief Human Resource Officer the Manager of the Health and Wellbeing team leads strategic planning, policy, procedure and program support for the whole of department. This includes maintaining a key focus on psychological health and safety; employee assistance; workplace rehabilitation and return to work management; workplace adjustments; early intervention and staff support services and, health and wellbeing programs to mitigate psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

You will contribute to strategic projects that promote continuous improvement in the department’s approach to providing safe working environments and supporting the health and wellbeing of employees.

As Manager Safety, Health and Wellbeing, you will specifically:

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Lead and manage the development and implementation of the DYJVS wellbeing and safety strategy, and subsequent initiatives and programs including, early intervention for psychosocial and other hazards, workplace rehabilitation and return to work strategies that result in improvements in staff wellbeing and business outcomes to ensure improvement in organisational wellbeing and safety performance.
• Manage and oversee the planning, development, implementation, governance, consultation and review of DYJVS wellbeing and safety management system policies, procedures and other business processes to mitigate areas of risk, ensure legislative compliance and support the achievement of organisational outcomes and continuous performance improvement.
• Foster a positive team culture, build the capability of the DYJVS Human Resources Safety & Wellbeing team and build professional client relationships to deliver on all organisational objectives and requirements across the state.
• Plan, develop, implement, manage and evaluate significant and complex wellbeing and safety risk projects, for example, psychosocial hazards, occupational violence, driving, fitness for duty, or other related wellbeing and safety initiatives to enhance the wellbeing and safety of staff and supporting business outcomes.
• Provide specialist advice, expertise and coaching to DYJVS senior executives and leaders on the implementation of contemporary and best practice approaches for managing employee health conditions and complex claims including Voluntary Medical Retirement (VMR) (Directive 06/24) and independent medical assessments under the Independent medical examinations (Directive 04/24) as well as early intervention programs and rehabilitation / return to work programs.
• Develop and implement strategies to record, monitor and review safety, wellbeing and injury management performance data and provide a high level of analysis to provide well informed evidence-based recommendations to drive quality decisionmaking.
• Develop training, education and awareness strategies to build department wide capability in the management of wellbeing and safety risks and support their day-today activities in a safe and healthy environment.
• Represent and advocate for DYJVS with other government departments, statutory authorities, professional organisations, unions, external services providers in the management of wellbeing and safety issues
• Prepare submissions, performance and other reports, brief papers and other correspondence for senior stakeholders on a range of complex and confidential health, safety and workers' compensation related issues.
