The Staff Training Coordinator (STC) plays a critical role in ensuring correctional officers maintain the skills, knowledge, and qualifications required to perform their duties safely, effectively, and in accordance with agency and legislative standards. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering centre‑based training programs that meet operational needs and support the ongoing professional development of staff. A key focus of the role is ensuring all officers maintain current competency in their vocational qualification and mandatory training requirements, with the STC providing proactive support to management through accurate forecasting, scheduling, and resource planning.
The STC will conduct training needs analyses across a range of custodial functions, identifying gaps, emerging requirements, and opportunities for capability development. This includes developing training plans, coordinating delivery with internal trainers and external providers, and ensuring programs are aligned with QCS Academy frameworks and RTO standards. The role also oversees the centre's assessment processes, providing support to learners, moderating assessments completed by trained centre assessors, and ensuring all assessment evidence is complete, accurate, and ready for progression to the Academy for validation. Quality assurance is a core component of the role, requiring strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining compliance with national training standards.
Training administration is another key responsibility, with the STC managing the storage, retrieval, and archiving of training records in accordance with RTO requirements. This includes maintaining accurate training data, monitoring staff progress, and ensuring all documentation meets audit and compliance expectations. The STC will also produce regular statistical reports and training data for centre management and the QCS Academy, providing insights that support decision making, resource allocation, and future training planning.
In addition to coordination and administration, the STC is required to deliver high quality training to staff on a regular basis. This includes designing and adapting training programs in collaboration with the QCS Academy to ensure content remains contemporary, relevant, and aligned with operational needs. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to engage diverse learners, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive training environment.
Success in this role requires strong organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving. The STC must be able to work collaboratively with centre management, rostering teams, internal trainers, and external partners to ensure training delivery is seamless and effective. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that directly contributes to the capability, safety, and professionalism of correctional officers and the broader custodial environment.
