QGHL is a leader in coastal science, engineering and monitoring, supporting Queensland’s policy, research, planning, and disaster management. We manage storm tide and wave monitoring networks, oversee the Tweed Sand Bypassing Project, and provide expertise in coastal processes, modelling, and impact assessments. The Queensland Government Hydraulics Laboratory (QGHL) is a dedicated 8-hectare facility located in Deagon, Brisbane, and is at the forefront of coastal engineering and management. As the leader of QGHL, you will:
• Drive Innovation: Lead research and operational programs to deliver cutting-edge coastal management sciences and services.
• Provide Strategic Leadership: Drive the strategic direction of the unit, manage complex projects with diverse stakeholders, balancing priorities and navigating sensitive political impacts
• Foster Expertise: Develop and maintain high-level scientific and technical skills to address emerging challenges in coastal management, science and engineering.
• Deliver Impactful Advice: Provide timely, high-quality technical and scientific insights to senior leaders, influencing policy and legislative outcomes.
• Build Partnerships: Collaborate with state, national, and international agencies, research partners, industry, and community groups to ensure QGHL's services remain relevant and impactful.
• Represent the Department: Professionally engage with government, science, university and industry forums to advocate for QGHL.
• Promote a Positive Culture: Champion a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace, fostering a team culture that values equity, diversity, continued growth and innovation.

We're seeking a leader who brings:
• Proven Strong Leadership: Strong skills in managing multidisciplinary teams, budgets, strategic initiatives and critical operations.
• Vision for Change: The ability to lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives within QGHL and the broader Science Division.
• Expert Knowledge: Contemporary expertise in coastal science, engineering and management, aligned with the needs of government, industry, research and communities.
• Exceptional Communication: High-level negotiation and relationship-building skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Policy Insight: A deep understanding of legislation, policy and program responses related to coastal engineering, science, monitoring and disaster management.
• Commitment to Inclusion: A dedication to workplace safety, equity, diversity and respect, bringing your unique perspectives to the team.
