Help protect Queensland’s most significant heritage places. As Principal Heritage Officer (PO4) in the Queensland Heritage Council and Register team, you’ll lead Queensland Heritage Register strategic work programs, drive effective statutory decision-making and good governance processes and provide trusted advice to the QHC and senior decision makers.
You’ll also lead a high performing team, drive smarter ways of working, and partner with government, industry, First Nations peoples and communities to safeguard cultural heritage now and for generations to come.

Join the Queensland Heritage Council and Register team and help shape decisions that protect Queensland's cultural heritage.
In this senior role you'll lead various Queensland Heritage Register various functions - guiding assessments to enter or remove places from the Register under the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. You'll also lift the way we work by improving register review processes and ensuring our heritage data is accurate, usable and supported by efficient systems.
You'll be a go to advisor Providing clear, practical guidance to executives and the Queensland Heritage Council, and preparing high-quality reports, submissions and Ministerial briefs. You'll champion continuous improvement too, from refining assessment approaches to strengthening digital heritage platforms and building team capability through matrix and multidisciplinary ways of working.
Success in this role relies on strong partnerships. You'll work closely with State agencies, local governments, First Nations peoples, heritage professionals, industry and communities bringing people together to deliver statutory functions and priority projects. You'll also lead with care, creating a safe, inclusive workplace where people can do their best work.
You're an experienced heritage professional and people leader with sound judgement, strong technical credibility and confidence working in complex statutory environments motivated by making a real public value contribution.
Your contribution
In this role, you'll lead the work that keeps Queensland's Heritage Register accurate, robust and defensible. You'll steer complex Heritage Register decisions, provide clear advice on heritage legislation and policy, and deliver well-crafted briefings for the Queensland Heritage Council, executives and Ministers. You'll also improve how we do things strengthening processes and systems while bringing people together and supporting a high performing team to deliver priority heritage programs.
