Beerburrum State School is seeking a teacher to lead our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program. This role involves designing, delivering and evaluating engaging, hands-on learning experiences in garden and kitchen settings. The program supports students to develop knowledge and skills in plants, ecosystems, sustainability, nutrition, food preparation and healthy living.
The role is part time 0.2FTE with a flexible roster available for days that suit the successful candidate.
Current Opportunities:
- SAKG - Year 2-6 (temporary/part time, commencing 01/05/26 - 11/12/26 with the possibility of extension)
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement lessons that integrate gardening and cooking with curriculum areas
- Maintain and develop the school garden as a safe, productive and inspiring learning space
- Teach practical gardening skills and cooking skills
- Promote environmental stewardship
- Collaborate with other educators
- Engage students in inquiry-based projects
- Ensure all activities comply with safety and risk management guidelines (CARA)
Requirements
Essential
- Teaching Degree / Registered with Qld College of Teachers
- Commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive teaching
Desirable
- Strong knowledge of horticulture / permaculture or sustainable gardening practices
- Strong knowledge of nutrition / food technology / cooking
- Excellent communication and strong classroom management skills
