Disability Support Worker (Residential Care Officer)

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Support Worker to provide care and assistance to an individual with complex and challenging behaviours, supported by a Positive Behaviour Support Plan. As part of this role, you will work under multidisciplinary support strategies, collaborating with healthcare professionals, therapists, and family members to ensure the individual receives holistic and effective care.
This position is ideal for someone who is patient, empathetic, and skilled in delivering person-centred care.

Disability Services - Accommodation Support (DSAS) value strong partnerships and relationships with our participants, families, and carers. Our support enables participants to live a rewarding life that focuses on their interests, choices, and rights every day.
Our support workers, known as Residential Care Officers, enrich clients' lives by ensuring they have the opportunity and support, tailored to their individual needs, to explore and participate in all aspects of their life. Our services include support for independent living (accommodation support). We have a focus on ensuring our diverse staff are well-trained and qualified and we pride ourselves on our reputation of delivering the best in disability support services.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Core Experience & Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience supporting participants with complex behaviours, intellectual disability, psychosocial disability, or dual diagnoses
- Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and behaviour support plans
- Experience working within NDIS practice standards, including dignity of risk and rights-based support
- Familiarity with trauma informed care and person-centred practice
Technical & Practical Skills
- Ability to safely implement restrictive practices where authorised (or willingness to be trained)
- Competence in de-escalation techniques and crisis response
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, including incident reporting
- Capability to follow clinical and allied health strategies consistently
Personal Attributes
- Emotional resilience and strong self-regulation in high stress situations
- Empathy, patience, and professional boundaries
- Reliability, consistency, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team
