Do you have experience with High Performance Computing? We are looking for a system administrator to join our small team to support our high performance computing (HPC) clusters & associated multi-petabyte mass storage systems.

The HPC systems, on our Linux & Windows clusters, support scientists in the Dept of the Environment, Tourism, Science & Innovation to do activities ranging from satellite image processing, climate science, hydrologic modelling and a lot more environmental research and machine learning activities. Science groups also make use of technologies including containers, Jupyter notebooks & DevOps incorporating continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD).

The role will focus on operations and implementation of on-premise hardware and software, networks & associated cloud-based infrastructure relating to hybrid integration & cloud-burst capabilities.

The High Performance Computing (HPC) Systems Administrator role is a member of a small HPC support team and is required to work closely with IT partners, project teams, science groups and key stakeholders to maintain HPC systems. In addition to maintaining the DETSI HPC systems this role will be required to contribute to infrastructure planning and designed activities across on premise and cloud infrastructure and assist with building scientific computing knowledge across the user groups to help maximise efficient use of resources for positive science outcomes.

The High Performance Computing Systems Administrator is a role in which you will:
• Assist with deployment of any new HPC infrastructure and modern software environments including connected cloud environments using the appropriate mechanisms.
• Work collaboratively with users, vendors and partners to identify and resolve hardware and software related issues.
• Perform HPC (Linux and Windows environments) administration and operational activities such as user management, batch management, performance monitoring, backup and restore, software management and general support to ensure efficient and effective running of the HPC for the scientific business users.
• Assist and provide advice to science staff relating to software management to support successful model runs / processing.
• Assist with innovative proof-of-concept activities and work with IT providers, project staff and business areas to deliver positive outcomes.
• Contribute to strategy development, future planning and procurement of high performance and scientific computing where required.
• Deliver training to build knowledge and skills of the HPC and cloud capabilities across Science users to maximise business benefits.
• Assist with the management of IT contracts, budgets and procurement activities, the management and delivery of IT infrastructure projects.
• Follow ITIL change and release management processes to ensure continuous business operations.
• Maintain awareness of industry trends and upcoming innovative technologies that may be applicable to supporting scientific computing on premises and on cloud.
