Legal Aid Queensland are seeking an experienced lawyer to join the Criminal Law Services division. You will prepare cases and advocate on behalf of clients and provide advice about criminal law and quasi criminal law matters and will undertake interesting and varied casework in a wide range of criminal law and related matters.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include representing clients in criminal law and related matters at all stages of proceedings.  You will provide duty lawyer services in the Magistrates and Children's Courts, offer legal advice to clients and the public, and support team members with legal enquiries. You will work both independently and with guidance from senior practitioners, contribute to policy and law reform submissions, build strong networks with stakeholders, and play an active role in team planning.

About you

You will be an experienced practitioner able to independently represent clients and have knowledge of the practice and procedure of Criminal Law and ethical standards. You communicate effectively and engage with complex clients using the principles of trauma informed practice.

You are a results-driven individual who excels at building and maintaining positive relationships, takes accountability for delivering high-quality services, and is committed to continuous improvement. With integrity at the core of your decision-making, you exercise sound judgement and know when to seek guidance or escalate issues. You embrace feedback and proactively seek de-velopment opportunities, striving to enhance both your personal and profes-sional outcomes.
