The Office of the Great Barrier Reef and World Heritage (OGBRWH) is a dedicated branch responsible for coordinating the Queensland Government's Reef strategies and programs, with a focus on improving accountability and achieving better outcomes for Reef health. It operates within the Environment and Heritage Policy and Programs (EHPP) Division, which develops strategies, policies, and legislation to support the Government's environmental priorities. Both OGBRWH and EHPP are part of the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI).

As a Principal Policy Officer, Reef Policy you will work as part of a dynamic team of environmental policy professionals to develop high level professional and technical advice and implement strategic government and key policy and regulatory initiatives to manage and protect the Great Barrier Reef. You will play a pivotal role in shaping and evaluating policy initiatives, conducting research, and delivering high-level advice to senior leaders, including the Director-General, Minister, and Cabinet.

You will work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including the Australian Government, Traditional Owners, other government agencies, scientists, industry and community groups. Your role will also involve fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful workplace culture, free from bullying, discrimination, and harassment.  This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes and make a lasting impact on the future of the Reef.

To succeed as a Principal Policy Officer, you'll bring strategic thinking, problem solving and sharp analytical skills. You know how to juggle priorities, manage complex projects, and deliver results on time. The role requires your written communication to be top-notch so you can turn complex ideas into clear, compelling advice for senior leaders and stakeholders. You'll also need to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to deliver on Reef policies and strategies.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
