This is a role where your clinical judgement and skills have a real impact, with each assessment, referral and engagement helping to improve outcomes for people with disability in our correctional system.

You may attend correctional centres across the region to engage with prisoners, frontline staff and stakeholders, developing a thorough understanding of disability referral processes and triaging based on referral criteria and individual need. The Disability Services Team provides a statewide function, meaning you may be required to travel to regional correctional centres to provide support and attend training opportunities.

You will benefit from a competitive remuneration package and a working environment that embraces professional development, builds capability, and supports your health and wellbeing, including:

  • Access to flexible work arrangements
  • Thorough onboarding, ongoing professional development and support from the Psychological Services Unit (PSU)
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% annual leave loading
  • Employee Assistance Program

In this role, you will:

  • Administer, coordinate and triage assessments - including cognitive capacity, adaptive functioning and behavioural needs, to support evidence-based access requests to the NDIS and other disability services
  • Use assessment outcomes to prepare clear written reports that inform support planning for prisoners with disability
  • Communicate assessment outcomes, recommendations and support needs directly to prisoners, and assist with consent processes and access applications
  • Apply best practice behaviour support, including Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), to assist frontline staff working with prisoners who have a disability
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including QCS Mental Health Teams, Prison Mental Health Services, NDIA and service providers including through complex case panels and NDIS planning meetings
  • Deliver training to staff across the agency on disability-related topics and the NDIS
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with QCS policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct
  • Participate in regular supervision, team meetings and professional development activities

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE - Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Allied Health (Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Psychology), Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or a related field — this is a mandatory requirement
  • Experience and understanding of clinical assessment, including standardised tools and functional assessment approaches
  • Sound communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders in a complex environment
  • A commitment to evidence-based, person-centred practice with vulnerable populations
  • The ability to work autonomously and manage time effectively as part of a statewide team
  • Where relevant to your discipline, full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is highly regarded, as is membership of a relevant professional association
  • A current C class driver's licence is mandatory, as travel to regional correctional centres will be required

Applications may be used for similar or identical positions within the agency that may arise in the future, which could be permanent or temporary in nature.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
