Principal Adviser Security Standards

Facilities and Assets; Infrastructure Asset Services and Major Capital Works Command; Organisational Capability; Brisbane

Be the force that shapes the future of security in Queensland’s correctional system.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is building a new, enterprise-wide Operational Technology (OT) security and cyber policy framework — and we’re searching for a Principal Advisor who can lead the charge.

This isn’t a back-office policy role. It’s frontline connected, high impact, and central to how QCS protects people, facilities, information and critical systems across the state.

If you thrive in complexity, influence with credibility, and can translate technical security requirements into clear, actionable policy — this is your stage.

Why this role matters:

QCS operates one of the most diverse and challenging OT environments in government — from high security correctional centres to remote facilities, command centres, training academies and community corrections. Your work will directly shape how these environments stay secure, compliant and future ready.

You'll be the connective tissue between policy, technology, cyber, infrastructure, frontline operations and government stakeholders — ensuring our security posture is strong, consistent and aligned to legislative and protective security obligations.

What you'll lead:

Build and embed a new OT security and cyber policy framework You'll drive the development, integration and rollout of a modern, legislatively aligned framework that supports safe, secure and compliant operations across QCS.

Own risk, governance and compliance From Essential Eight and ISO 27001 alignment to risk assessments across complex OT landscapes, you'll ensure QCS meets its obligations and can evidence performance.

Be the expert voice You'll provide high level advice on emerging cyber and OT trends, system requirements, and operational impacts — becoming a trusted advisor across Commands and with government partners.

Champion change and uplift You'll help frontline teams understand, adopt and apply new policies through training, communication and engagement that actually lands.

What you bring:

  • Exceptional writing and policy formulation skills — you can turn complexity into clarity.
  • Deep experience interpreting legislation, standards and technical requirements in large, complex environments.
  • Strong governance, version control and quality assurance discipline.
  • The ability to build credible, productive relationships with stakeholders who don't always agree.
  • A strategic mindset paired with practical delivery capability — you can see the big picture and execute the detail.
  • Awareness or experience in correctional, justice or high security environments (highly desirable).
  • Bonus points for technical qualifications: ISO 27001, CISM, CISSP, engineering, PLC/OT, or project management.

Why you'll love it:

This is a rare opportunity to:

  • Shape a foundational security framework from the ground up
  • Influence how a critical public safety organisation operates
  • Work across cyber, OT, infrastructure, frontline operations and government
  • Lead meaningful change that strengthens safety, security and public trust

If you want a role with purpose, complexity and genuine impact — step forward.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
