The Performance and Improvement Command is Custodial Operations' central hub for performance, assurance, governance and continuous improvement. The Command plays a pivotal role in strengthening operational outcomes across Queensland Corrective Services' correctional centres by coordinating divisional  planning, performance reporting, standards development and assurance activities.

As Director, Performance and Improvement, you will provide senior strategic leadership across the Custodial Operations portfolio, setting the divisional performance agenda and ensuring robust governance, planning, reporting and risk management frameworks are in place. Reporting directly to the Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the role operates at a highly influential executive level and works closely with senior leaders across the agency and key external oversight bodies.

The Director leads the Custodial Operations Divisional Plan lifecycle, including development, consultation, implementation, quarterly monitoring and executive reporting, ensuring alignment with QCS strategic priorities and Board of Management requirements. The role oversees divisional governance and performance reporting, maintains divisional risk registers, and leads the ongoing development and implementation of the custodial operations assurance framework.

This position is a key interface with internal and external oversight bodies, coordinating high‑quality responses to reviews, audits and recommendations, including matters arising from the Inspector of Detention Services. The Director also leads the development and maintenance of standards, serves as the central point for policy liaison, and ensures recommendations and improvement actions are systematically tracked and embedded.

The role has responsibility for correctional centre performance oversight, including financial performance reporting, development of Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators, and coordination of Operational Performance Reviews. It also drives the establishment and maturation of business intelligence and data driven insights to support executive decision‑making and continuous improvement across complex operational environments.

This is a senior leadership role suited to a highly capable executive with strong governance expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to influence, collaborate and deliver measurable performance improvements in a complex, high‑risk operational context.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
