About the role
As a Principal Lawyer (Adjudication), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Adjudication Registry under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017 (Qld). In this dynamic position, you will deliver expert legal advice, represent the Registry in court and tribunal proceedings, and oversee the assessment and appointment of adjudication applications to ensure fair and compliant outcomes. You'll also contribute to policy development, drive continuous improvement initiatives, support legislative change projects, and mentor a high-performing team. With a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and customer service, this role offers the opportunity to influence best practice, shape decision-making processes, and make a meaningful impact across Queensland's building and construction sector.
This position is part-time (0.6 FTE – 3 days a week), based in Brisbane CBD. The successful candidate will be required to enter into a Flexible Work Arrangement reflecting Brisbane as their primary office location. While the role allows for flexibility in working from home, regular in-person attendance at the Brisbane office is a mandatory requirement.

About you
You are an experienced litigation professional, ideally with a background in government, administrative, or civil law. You can confidently appear as an advocate, analyse complex issues and deliver clear legal advice, supported by strong communication and stakeholder management skills. You are proactive, solutions-focused, and able to work independently to meet deadlines. You will bring strong judgement and a commitment to driving quality, consistency and continuous improvement within a statutory environment.
Mandatory qualifications
- Admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland
- Current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement in the role) issued by the Queensland Law Society or Queensland Bar Association
- Full compliance with CPD requirements of the Queensland Law Society or Queensland Bar Association.
