An exciting opportunity has become available for a high performing individual to join the Engineering & Technology branch of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) in the role of Principal Engineer (Electrical & ITS). The Principal Engineer plays a key role to enhancing road safety outcomes and will be responsible for managing Road Safety Technology Projects i.e. Camera Detected Offence Program, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and other technology innovation projects. This role also provides engineering support and advice to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Road Safety Technologies.

The Principal Engineer plays a key role to enhancing road safety outcomes and will be responsible for managing Road Safety Technology Projects i.e. Camera Detected Offence Program, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and other technology innovation projects. This role also provides engineering support and advice to ensure the efficient and effective operation of Road Safety Technologies.
The Principal Engineer will participate in engineering planning, design, construction and maintenance activities. Some of the other responsibilities will include:
• Provide expert advice and support to internal and external stakeholders, for the Department's Road Safety Technologies, Electrical and ITS.
• Develop technical policies, specifications, designs, standards, and guidelines for Road Safety Technologies, ITS and Electrical Infrastructure which support the departments priorities to enhance road safety outcomes.
• Coordinate, project manage and provide extensive technical expertise in multidisciplinary project teams delivering Road Safety Technologies, Electrical and ITS projects, including contract management, to ensure that projects are delivered within time, cost and quality dimensions to internal and external clients.
• Represent the department and present papers at State and National level external committees and forums.
• Perform research and development activities in a range of technologies.
• Mentor and supervise the work of non-RPEQ team members and coordinate resource allocation to encourage effective teamwork and foster a positive attitude toward the achievement of organisational objectives.
