Are you looking for a finance role where your work directly supports delivery and has a visible impact?
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking an experienced and motivated Finance Advisor to join the Program Support team in the Darling Downs District. This role plays an important part in supporting the planning, delivery and oversight of major transport and road infrastructure across Southern Queensland.
As the Finance Advisor, you will lead and support a small finance and procurement team responsible for delivering high‑quality financial advice, reporting and governance support. Your work will underpin effective decision‑making across a broad range of operational, technical and project delivery areas, ensuring public funds are managed responsibly and in line with legislative and policy requirements. Working closely with delivery and project teams, you will provide practical, timely advice on financial performance, risks and obligations, and support month‑end and reporting activities. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial practices, internal controls and business processes at a district level.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of programs, influence outcomes through trusted advice, and develop your leadership capability within a collaborative and supportive regional environment.
What you will bring
You are a capable finance professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, delivery focused setting. You build strong working relationships, communicate clearly and confidently, and are comfortable balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
You bring sound knowledge of financial management practices, an understanding of governance and risk and a genuine interest in supporting teams to achieve successful outcomes. Experience leading or supporting a small team, strong analytical skills and confidence using contemporary financial systems and tools will support your success in this role.
