A permanent opportunity is now available for a Senior Engineer (Civil) to join the Program Delivery & Operations Branch at Transport and Main Roads (TMR), based in beautiful Cairns within the Far North District.

This role sits within the Project Planning team of the Project Planning and Corridor Management unit. The team plays a vital role in managing and delivering the Far North District’s infrastructure planning program, ensuring a steady pipeline of capital works and safety investments across the region’s transport infrastructure network.

In the role of Senior Engineer (Civil) you will project manage the delivery of multiple road infrastructure projects through the provision of technical expertise and the administration of contracts and support to the design, construction and maintenance processes.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert advice on planning and design processes to ensure project outcomes, value for money, and best practices are achieved.
  • Leading tendering and estimating activities to support the effective development and delivery of road infrastructure projects.
  • Determining engineering requirements, including materials, critical components, and systems, to support project management and delivery.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislative requirements for the design and construction of road infrastructure projects.
  • Adhering to quality management procedures to deliver road projects to a high and consistent standard for Transport and Main Roads and its clients.
  • Managing effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders on all matters related to transport infrastructure delivery activities.
  • Planning, assigning, directing, supervising, and coordinating work activities of team members, fostering teamwork and a positive attitude towards achieving organisational objectives.

Mandatory qualifications and conditions:

  • A Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.
  • Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position; however, applications will also be considered if evidence is provided that an assessment for RPEQ has commenced.
  • Current holder of a Class C driver licence.
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia
  • Pre-employment check of serious discipline history for the recommended candidate(s) as a condition of employment.
