As our Senior Extension Officer (Extensive Livestock Systems) you will:
• Lead the southwest Queensland GrazingFutures Prepare and Prosper project and support the Leading Sheep project to enhance the profitability, productivity, competitiveness and environmental sustainability of extensive beef, sheep, and goat industries. ( https://futurebeef.com.au/ ).
• Provide professional leadership in developing high performing teams through the direct supervision and mentoring of staff, creating measurable and attainable goals and building strong morale.
• Develop, organise and execute animal production, grazing land management and livestock business extension activities utilising the Extension Model of Practice, including the delivery of a wide range of community and stakeholder engagement events and extension materials in line with project deliverables.
• Build relationships and rapport with beef producers to identify and implement opportunities to improve the productivity and resilience of their feed base, primarily by supporting the adoption of whole of business best practices.
• Ensure that project deliverables are of a high standard and are delivered to influence adoption by industry, and that project management and governance processes are exemplary of a leading RD&E organisation.
• Build knowledge and skills in staff for the effective applied research, demonstration and extension of options to evaluate and demonstrate industry productivity, profitability and sustainability.
• Build and maintain effective collaborative partnerships within DPI, across government, producers and industry: e.g. Meat and Livestock Australia, Natural Resource Management bodies, AgForce, Australian Wool Innovation, universities and other stakeholders across the state and nationally.
• To improve livestock industry adoption of recommended best practices in Southwest Queensland, you will have a high-level knowledge of extension practices relevant to red meat businesses and a high level of knowledge in the technical fields of grazing land management, animal production, and business management of extensive livestock systems.

What we are looking for
Licences and registrations
• A current manual “C” class drivers' licence.

Mandatory qualifications and/or physical requirements
• It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural Science / Applied Science / Environmental Science from a recognised tertiary institution.
• For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
• Willingness to undertake frequent travel to other locations and work for extended periods across Central Queensland, often in remote areas with overnight stays.
• Willingness to undertake physically demanding fieldwork in hot, sometimes wet, humid environments, and at relatively remote, isolated research sites in accordance with WHS policies and procedures.

Desirable Attributes
• Experience working with Queensland beef businesses is highly desirable.
