Queensland Police Service Legal Services; Office Of The General Counsel; Office Of The Commissioner; Brisbane City
QPS Legal Services represents the Service before the courts, as well as the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal and other tribunals, in relation to matters such as discipline, discrimination, inquests and appeals. We also provide legal advice and executive support to the Commissioner and Senior Executive on a range of issues including contractual and partnership agreements, statutory interpretation and release of information.

Your key accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Provide high quality, confidential advice, on short notice to the Commissioner and other members of the Senior Executive of the Queensland Police Service on complex and sensitive legal matters including, compensation, agreements with Government and non-government entities, complex criminal matters; release, access and disclosure of information, discipline of police officers and associated legal and industrial issues.
- Represent the Queensland Police Service before the courts and tribunals on matters such as appeals, applications, coronial inquests, judicial reviews, discrimination and discipline reviews.
- Provide legal advice, where appropriate, to operational police officers concerning substantive law and police powers relating to investigations and police operations.
- Maintain and comply with the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct.
Role Requirements
Mandatory: Admission or eligibility for immediate admission as a barrister, solicitor or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
Qualification: Possession of a degree in law from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent qualification.
