The Manager, Strategic Communication leads a small but dynamic team of communication professionals who drive and oversee a diverse portfolio of communication channels.

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Communication, the manager supports the day-to-day workload of the Strategic Communication team and its members to do their best work in a timely and collaborative way.

The manager plays an important role in supporting and growing the strategic communication team’s relationships across the department, ensuring we have the right communications strategies for the right initiatives at the right time.

As Manager, Strategic Communication, you will:

• Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Lead and manage a dedicated team of communications professionals to provide the department with a comprehensive suite of communication services, including internal communications, stakeholder engagement, website content development and maintenance and strategic corporate communications.
• Oversee the development, delivery and evaluation of communication plans and activities for specific projects and initiatives to connect stakeholders and other Queenslanders with the work of the department.
• Provide strategic advice on and manage, delivery of communication projects and activities in line with their respective budgets and resource allocations, ensuring liaison and consultation with key stakeholders.
• Manage a team responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of innovative and effective communication strategies targeting diverse audiences as well as the delivery of the department's social media and digital marketing function.
• Provide strategic advice on communication, including campaigns, crisis communication and issues management, to senior departmental officers.
• Work seamlessly with the Department's media team, providing leadership where appropriate to ensure alignment between agreed key messages and our content across platforms.
• Manage the implementation of departmental communication policies and standards within the department.
• Prepare original submissions, briefs, reports and correspondence of a complex nature relating to communication issues.
• Ensure departmental communication materials comply with corporate governance processes, whole-of-government policies and regulatory requirements as well as editorial and visual style guidelines.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with departmental staff, the offices of the Minister and Director-General as well as key external stakeholders and other government agencies.
• Support the director, strategic communication to manage the human resources, financial and procurement activities of the strategic communication team.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the strategic communication team by actively innovating and improving strategies, processes and systems.
• Support and comply with workplace health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal employment opportunity principles and practices.
