The Local Government Division plays a critical role in empowering councils to deliver their local priorities. As Principal Region Advisor in the Wide Bay, Burnett, Central Queensland Regional Services Team you will be supporting 19 councils across Queensland to be effective and sustainable. You will build capacity within the local government sector via training programs for councillors and staff. The team provides support through a range of funding programs to help councils access the resources they require to meet community infrastructure needs and to cope with future growth. This includes a strong commitment to providing legislative and governance advice to support local governments operationally.

The Role:
As a Principal Region Advisor in Southern Region, Strategy and Service Delivery, you will demonstrate expertise and leadership by providing high-quality, professional and effective client-focused services and advice to the region. Southern Region has offices that service 40 Local Government Areas across the southern parts of the State.

Key Duties and Accountabilities:
• Build and maintain cohesive and functional relationships across Local Government Division.
• Maintain an advanced knowledge and understanding of the local government sector and regions, in order to build council capability and provide advice to and from the Department on a range of matters (including Council statutory obligations, governance, grant management and financial sustainability issues), ensuring that quality, timeframe and departmental standards are met.
• Show leadership by sharing insight and proactively advancing key priorities.
• Support the Region Manager to lead and manage a team of staff by demonstrating a commitment to operational improvement and promoting quality of work.
• Prepare high level written material (including outgoing correspondence, briefs and reports).
• Demonstrate high-level communication and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders and clients.
• Lead the delivery of training activities, workshops, meetings, seminars and events.
• Duties may vary from time to time. You may be required to perform a range of tasks that are outside your main list of duties, but are within the limits of your skill, competency and training, or are incidental and peripheral to your main duties.

About You:
• Highly organised to manage competing priorities and delivery quality outcomes.
• Experience working with or within the local government sector.
• Strong communication skills to build internal and external relationships with local government stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret key legislation including Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012.

Flexible locations at DLGWV offices within the Wide Bay, Burnett, and Central Queensland Region will be considered.
