The Principal Program Officer, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) has a focus on ensuring that front line child protection practitioners are confident and capable in assessing risk and harm for children young people who are using alcohol and other drugs or are impacted by parental AOD use.

The Principal Program Officer will work closely with Queensland Health to strengthen front line child safety staff AOD practice capability to assess and respond to AOD risks and harms.

The successful candidate will have experience in service design and implementation and practice development with a strong focus on ensuring services are delivering quality outcomes for children and young people and value for investment of public funds.

Job details

The Principal Program Officer- Alcohol and Other Drugs key responsibilities are:

• To work within a team to develop, deliver and review of best practice, evidence-based AOD resources and education content that enhances the professional knowledge, skill, confidence and capability of child protection practitioners to assess and effectively respond to vulnerable families and young people experiencing AOD-related risks and harms in Queensland.
• Enhance harm reduction approaches within Child Safety practice
• Strengthen multi-agency collaboration to promote coordinated, holistic support for children, young people and families.
• Undertake high level, culturally responsive liaison, consultation and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders.
• Undertake program assurance and program reporting to inform senior executives and inter-governmental forums on the benefits and performance of program outcomes and provide evidence of tangible outcomes for children and young people.
• Use strong interpersonal communication to establish and maintain partnerships and working relationships to achieve outcomes for children and young people with AOD misuse issues.
• Prepare a range of written communication materials including correspondence, arrange departmental and inter-departmental meetings and prepare meeting minutes, presentations, briefing material and information papers concerning child protection, and the intersect with AOD use.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and review the implementation of program initiatives including information systems, databases, policies and procedures.
• Contribute to the implementation of policies, procedures and practices for Child Safety.
