The Principal Investigator leads a team of Senior Investigators within Reportable Conduct Investigations (family-based care) who investigate allegations of reportable conduct involving foster and kinship carers and adult household members under the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024.

This role provides strategic leadership, guidance, and quality assurance to ensure investigations are culturally safe, child-centred, and completed within legislated timeframes. This role undertakes complex investigations and offers expert advice to senior management, regions and operational areas to enhance understanding and compliance with the reportable conduct scheme.

As a Principal Investigator you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of staff to deliver high quality, child-centered and culturally safe reportable conduct investigations of family-based carers and adult household members consistent with legislation, departmental policies and statutory responsibilities and in accordance with best practice Human Resources principles.
  • Lead, coach and support Senior Investigators including providing guidance on strategic investigation planning, upholding principles of procedural fairness and ensure the quality of written work through robust quality assurance processes. Allocate and prioritise work of the Senior Investigators to meet legislated timeframes, while ensuring the business unit achieves its outcomes and performance indicators.
  • Lead, coordinate and/or conduct complex reportable conduct investigations including the ability to work collaboratively with frontline staff and other stakeholders to plan, investigate, assess and mitigate risks, gather and critically analyse evidence and make findings and recommendations, clearly documented in a written report.
  • Provide authoritative advice and make timely decisions to support frontline staff and senior management with complex matters relating to the reportable conduct scheme and to support timely and collaborative resolution of matters in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders, including frontline and regional staff, other government departments, other reporting entities, non-government service providers, and the regulatory body to support the management of reportable conduct investigations.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure refinement to enable continuous improvement in investigating allegations of reportable conduct.
  • Support the Manager to respond to Ministerial and Parliamentary briefings, requests from the Queensland Ombudsman, Human Rights Commission, Queensland Family and Child Commission and other regulatory bodies.
  • Actively participate as a member of Reportable conduct investigations (family-based care) management team contributing to the effective functioning and oversight of the department's participation in the reportable conduct scheme.
  • Oversee and manage the team's human resources, including the provision of effective supervision and development of staff to deliver on team functions.
  • Manage other projects and other related business unit work tasks, including representing Reportable conduct investigations (family-based care) in various committees, forums or working groups.
