As a Ranger (OO6), you will lead the operational management of Springvale Station Nature Refuge as part of the Cooktown Management Unit. This is a senior, mixed field‑and‑leadership role suited to a person who can plan, prioritise and deliver complex land management programs in a remote, fire‑prone environment. You will develop and deliver annual work programs, lead staff and contractors, and manage infrastructure, tracks, fencing and operational assets. Fire management is a core focus, including preparedness planning, early season burning, firebreak maintenance, asset protection and wildfire readiness, requiring strong judgement, safety leadership and effective use of plant and equipment.
The role also leads priority pest plant and pest animal programs, including large scale Hymenachne control and feral pig management using ground‑based and aerial techniques. Regular patrols, boundary checks and inspections across the property are required, along with clear reporting, mapping and issue escalation.

While much of the work is undertaken independently, you will operate as part of a broader, well‑supported ranger network and work closely with neighbouring rangers, Traditional Owners, Aboriginal corporations, landholders, emergency services and contractors. Strong leadership, cultural capability, practical problem‑solving and resilience are essential.
This role will appeal to rangers ready to step into a high‑responsibility position where operational leadership, field expertise and connection to Country are equally important.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
