We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Safety and Wellbeing to lead and promote a culture of behavioural safety across the department. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for aligning and integrating the department's health,
safety, psychosocial risk and wellbeing activities. As a key member of the HR leadership team, you will drive the strategic vision and operational execution of best practice safety management, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and
fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities
As the Director, Safety and Wellbeing, you will lead the development and implementation of strategies, systems, policies and processes to manage physical and psychosocial risks and promote the wellbeing of workers and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include (see role description for further information):
Drive continuous improvement within CDSB's safety management system, ensuring:
• Strong assurance and governance.
• Compliance with legislative requirements.
• Robust tools, resources, and fit-for-purpose technical platforms.
• Reporting outcomes that enable data-driven decision-making.
• Provide strategic and expert advice to CDSB management and executives on all aspects of safety and wellbeing management.
• Deliver insights and expert analysis, including assurance reporting, to support timely and informed decision-making on safety matters and risks.
• Prepare and oversee the preparation of complex reports, correspondence, briefing notes, and submissions on significant safety and wellbeing issues.
• Build and maintain strategic networks and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including WorkCover Queensland, Crown Law, the Workers' Compensation Regulator and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
• Mentor and build capability within the HR team by enhancing understanding and application of legislative and public sector policy frameworks relating to safety and wellbeing.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive safety performance, foster a progressive safety culture, and execute a department-wide safety strategy.
• Strategic WHS leadership and transformational change management experience in a large, complex, geographically dispersed and diverse organisation.
• Extensive knowledge and experience in workplace health and safety, psychological safety and rehabilitation practices, including risk management.
• Exceptional engagement and communication skills to collaborate effectively, build strong relationships with stakeholders, and provide credible, emotionally intelligent advice to executives.
• Strong research, strategic problem-solving, and data analysis skills to inform evidence-based decision-making.
• A commitment to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across the organisation.
