The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is shaping Queensland's transport future through the delivery of safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure. Within TMR, the Engineering and Technology Branch provides specialist technical leadership supporting the operation, reliability, and future readiness of Queensland's transport networks.
Dean & Ling Executive have been engaged to recruit a senior technical leader for TMR's Transport Operational Technologies team in the role of Director (Tunnel Operational Technologies).
The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director (Transport Operational Technologies), you will provide leadership across tunnel operational technologies, safety assurance, and systems engineering functions supporting Queensland's Busway tunnel network and associated infrastructure.
This is a rare opportunity to lead highly specialised, safety-critical infrastructure within one of Australia's largest transport networks. You will oversee operational technologies and systems relating to tunnel safety, intelligent transport systems (ITS), mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and operational performance.
You will:
- Provide strategic leadership across tunnel operational technologies and safety systems
- Deliver expert technical advice relating to tunnel safety, operational resilience and future infrastructure investment
- Oversee tunnel safety cases, engineering assurance, and operational system performance
- Lead the development of technical policies, standards and governance frameworks
- Manage complex stakeholder relationships across government, operators, contractors and technical specialists,
- Lead multidisciplinary technical teams within a high-performance environment
This role will play an important part in supporting future transport initiatives and major infrastructure investment connected to Queensland's continued growth and Olympic preparations.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished engineering leader with experience across tunnel technologies, operational systems, ITS, or complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. A highly suitable candidate will have strong operational technology, systems engineering, tunnel operations, and/or safety assurance expertise.
You will possess:
- A Washington Accord-accredited engineering degree
- RPEQ registration, or the ability to obtain registration in Queensland
- Experience managing complex tunnel and/or busway operational environments
- Strong technical capability across ITS, operational technologies, systems engineering, or mechanical/electrical infrastructure
- Proven leadership capability within complex operational environments
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Experience relating to RAMS methodologies, safety case development, and operational systems assurance will be highly regarded.
