An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced leader to join us as Director, Strategy, Policy and Evaluation until 30 December 2026, with the possibility of an extension.
In this position you will lead a high-performing team delivering strategic science policy advice, evaluation frameworks and initiatives that support Queensland’s science and innovation agenda.
The Strategy, Policy and Evaluation team contributes to strategic science policy, administration of legislative, evidence-based decision making and evaluation activities that support Queensland’s future economic and research capability.

Based at the Ecosciences Precinct in Dutton Park, we're located within the emerging Boggo Road Innovation Precinct and Cross River Rail network - one of Brisbane's most significant innovation and knowledge hubs.
About the Role
As the Director, you will provide leadership across a broad portfolio of strategic initiatives that strengthen Queensland's science ecosystem and support government priorities. You will work closely with senior executives, researchers, industry stakeholders, universities, and government partners to shape science policy outcomes and evaluate the impact of science investment across Queensland.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading the Strategy, Policy and Evaluation team to deliver strategic and operational priorities
• Providing high-level policy advice on science, research, innovation, and evaluation matters
• Administering biodiscovery and gene technology legislation
• Driving evidence-based policy development and program evaluation activities
• Building productive relationships with government agencies, research organisations, universities, and industry stakeholders
• Managing complex projects, governance processes, and strategic reporting
• Supporting initiatives aligned with Queensland's science and innovation priorities
• Contributing to branch leadership and organisational capability development.
About You
You are an accomplished leader with strong strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. You thrive in complex environments and can translate evidence and analysis into practical policy outcomes.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and strategic projects
• Strong policy development, evaluation, and analytical capability
• Exceptional written communication and briefing skills
• Experience engaging with senior stakeholders across government, academia, and industry
• A collaborative leadership style with a focus on delivering outcomes
• Understanding of the science, research, innovation, or public policy landscape.
