Queensland Corrective Services Academy is seeking an experienced Principal Adviser, Operational Training to lead the delivery, quality and continuous improvement of custodial operational training across Queensland.

In this senior role, you will manage a statewide team of Staff Training Coordinators, oversee program consistency and compliance, and ensure training aligns with operational needs and RTO requirements. You will build strong relationships with correctional centre leadership, drive capability development, and contribute to strategic training planning and reporting.

This position plays a critical role in strengthening workforce readiness and supporting safe, effective correctional operations.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) delivers safe, modern and responsive correctional services that support rehabilitation and reduce crime. The Principal Adviser, Operational Training plays a key leadership role within Queensland Corrective Services Academy, overseeing the delivery, quality and continuous improvement of custodial operational training across Queensland. The position ensures training programs remain contemporary, consistent and aligned with operational needs, agency priorities and RTO requirements, supporting a capable and confident custodial workforce.

The role leads and develops core capability within the custodial operational training function and manages a statewide team of Staff Training Coordinators to ensure cohesive, high‑quality training delivery across correctional centres. You will oversee program quality, ensuring training is fit for purpose, compliant with national standards and reflective of the skills and competencies required of custodial staff. A key responsibility is establishing and maintaining a continuous improvement framework to evaluate program effectiveness, identify emerging training needs and ensure training mitigates operational risk. This includes reviewing curriculum and assessment tools, managing quality management system processes, and ensuring training environments and resources meet legislative, WHS and agency standards.

The Principal Adviser builds strong working relationships with correctional centre leadership and staff to ensure training services meet operational expectations and support workforce readiness. You will develop training reporting frameworks, contribute to annual operational training plans and priorities, and work closely with Academy management and stakeholders to monitor delivery and performance. The role also participates in annual auditing processes to ensure QCS meets its obligations as a Registered Training Organisation and maintains compliance with RTO and VQF requirements.

The position requires a strong understanding of the custodial operational environment and the ability to engage diverse adult learners. You will provide guidance and support to Staff Training Coordinators, ensure assessment evidence is evaluated accurately and recorded appropriately, and contribute to the development of training strategies that enhance capability across the state. The role may also be required to undertake additional duties aligned with operational needs.
