The Principal Accountant is a key member of the financial accounting, assets and reporting unit which is a professional and dedicated team responsible for statutory financial reporting and compliance functions, asset accounting programs and the delivery of high quality financial accounting services and advice. The role works to ensure accurate, timely and relevant financial advice and reporting services are delivered to stakeholders and clients across the organisation and externally. The Principal Accountant will make a vital contribution to the delivery of effective financial management services to support the achievement of strategic business outcomes for the QAS.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:
• Proven experience in delivering high quality financial accounting services within a complex and geographically diverse organisational environment; with a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
• Demonstrated highly developed oral and written communication skills including the ability to articulate complex financial concepts, negotiate with influence, resolve conflicts and prepare accurate reports and documentation.
• Proven experience working within a large, computerised accrual accounting environment, and the ability to efficiently utilise a range of computer applications, including superior spreadsheeting skills.
• Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and the proven ability to interpret and evaluate financial data and reports to identify the financial impact of issues on the business and make appropriate recommendations.
• Demonstrated high level attention to detail with the proven ability to work methodically, plan and prioritise tasks, manage workflows and achieve outcomes within allocated timeframes.
Mandatory/Special conditions/Other requirements
The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:
• Whilst not mandatory, an experienced accountant with tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or business and membership or eligibility for membership to a professional accounting body will be highly regarded.
• It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza. Please note, there may be additional vaccination requirements depending on individual circumstances as specified in the QAS Infection Control Framework.
• Position may require participation in shift work (including weekends and public holidays), on-call duties and undertake overtime.
