Key Details:
- This position is Temporary Full Time from date of appointment till 30 January 2027 with the possibility of extension.
The successful candidate will play an integral role in the following:
- Provide legal advice and information about Family law matters, including advice in relation to child protection, family law and domestic and family violence law to clients and prisoners via phone, video conference and face to face. Explain people's legal options and when needed, refer them to other agencies.
- Provide minor assistance, such as preparing letters and submissions.
- Provide advice to Legal Aid Queensland staff about merit assessments for grants of aid. This includes completing a checklist, determining each matter's likely success, and recommending whether a client receive aid for legal representation.
- Help maintain legal content in the legal information database, legal advice toolkit, legal information guides and precedents.
- Support Legal Aid Queensland's contributions to policy, procedure, law reform and legal service delivery initiatives as required, and participate in the development of team plans and work practices.
- Liaise with key stakeholders in the justice system and Legal Aid Queensland about client matters.
- Help provide information to Legal Aid Queensland staff and relevant external stakeholders to increase awareness of advice services.
About You:
- You have knowledge of the practice and procedure in Family law and related civil law areas such as domestic and family violence and child protection law and can provide legal information and advice in this area.
- You have knowledge of the practice and procedure of the relevant areas of law and ethical standards.
- You communicate in a clear, concise and articulate manner, prepare written submissions, letters, documents and resources and tailor your communication style to your audience including clients with complex needs using the principles of trauma informed practice.
