As a Principal Legal Officer, you will play a pivotal role in providing authoritative legal advice on complex, high-impact matters that shape Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) operations and projects.
In this role, you’ll partner with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation, offering clear, practical and timely advice on a diverse range of legal issues. These include contractual and commercial arrangements, property, construction and major projects, procurement, planning and environmental matters, disputes, litigation, administrative law and statutory interpretation. Your ability to navigate sensitive and multifaceted issues will be key to enabling sound decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
The purpose of the Principal Legal Officer is to provide expert legal support to TMR on complex legal issues and drafting legal documents.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
• Provide well researched, timely, practical and accurate legal advice to TMR staff at all levels of the organisation on a wide range of complex and sensitive legal matters including: contractual and commercial matters, property, construction, major projects, procurement, planning and environment, disputes and general litigation, administrative law and statutory interpretation.
• Negotiate, draft and settle a wide range of legal documents including invitations to offer, contracts, deeds, memoranda of understanding and licences.
• Instruct and manage service delivery by external legal providers on behalf of TMR.
• Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders.
• Support the Directors (Legal) to:
- manage the daily operations of the legal services team;
- provide strategic direction for the provision of legal services to TMR; and
- assist in the settling of other legal officers' work.
• Comply with time costings, matter management and precedent database systems and processes and TMR policies, and actively contribute to business improvements
