As our Biosecurity Officer - Industry Development and Preparedness, you will work closely with industry stakeholders to support the delivery of capability and preparedness activities for the management of plant biosecurity risks. You will use your strong engagement skills to gain an understanding of biosecurity needs, risks, issues and motivators within the region to support improved risk management and preparedness. You will also use your technical expertise to provide advice on crop protection for established pests and diseases, including integrated pest management and crop protection products.

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats.

Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity (PBPI) - The PBPI Program has an integral role in delivering BQ's vision of leading the delivery of innovative, customer focused biosecurity services for Queensland. The Program's goal is to protect Queensland's agricultural industries, environment and communities from plant pests and diseases, and facilitate trade in high quality, safe agricultural products.

As a Biosecurity Officer - Industry Development and Preparedness, you will: 
• Work alongside, and collaborate with, industry organisations, to support the delivery of capability and preparedness activities for the management of biosecurity risks.
• Build relationships, trust and rapport with growers, and industry stakeholders to identify and implement opportunities to improve biosecurity practices.
• Work with researchers, regulators and industry to establish the framework for the development of secure pathways that minimise the disruption to trade in the event of a biosecurity incursion.

There are some mandatory requirements for this role. You must have: 
• An Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Agricultural or Environmental Science, or related field, from a recognised tertiary institution.
• A current “C” class drivers' licence.
• Flexibility to undertake occasional travel to other locations with overnight stays may be required.
