We are seeking a confident and enthusiastic Lawyer to join our Litigation Unit in the Brisbane CBD office.
The Litigation unit has carriage of all assessment, enforcement and compliance litigation work on behalf of the department and other government departments under service level agreements, including prosecutions, appeals against decisions in relation to environmental matters before the Planning and Environment Court, and appears in the Land Court, including in relation to mining objections hearings.
The Litigation Unit also provides strategic advice and direction on the department’s regulatory actions and enforcement role.

You will have a law degree, and either be an admitted Lawyer or on track to being admitted, with strong communication and technical skills and have an enthusiasm for legal practice in environmental law.
This position requires:
- Admission or eligibility for immediate admission as a barrister, solicitor, or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland
- Exceptional communication skills including the ability to write clearly, succinctly and with attention to detail and be able to influence, negotiate and collaborate with a range of key stakeholders on complex legal matters.
- Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Environmental Law, Planning Law, Criminal Law, Statutory interpretation, Litigation procedure and legislation administered by the Department
- An enthusiasm for legal practice in environmental law, a willingness to learn and the ability to work well under pressure within a team environment.
- A demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment and contribute to team culture.
