About the Role
Are you passionate about science, biosecurity, and protecting Queensland's environment and agricultural industries? We are seeking a Science Technician to join our dedicated team working on one of Australia's most significant invasive species programs—the detection, identification, and eradication of Red Imported Fire Ants.
In this varied and rewarding role, you'll work alongside scientists, technical specialists, and field staff to support cutting-edge research and operational activities.
No two days are the same—you may be identifying insect specimens in the laboratory, assisting with field trials, maintaining live ant colonies, collecting and managing scientific data, or helping develop innovative solutions to improve fire ant surveillance and control.
You'll gain hands-on experience across laboratory, field, and office environments while contributing to research that delivers real-world biosecurity outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong interest in entomology, ecology, molecular science, or applied research who enjoys practical, detail-oriented work and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
What we offer
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to nationally significant biosecurity programs while gaining valuable experience in molecular diagnostics and applied scientific research. You will work alongside experienced scientists and technical specialists in a supportive environment that values teamwork, safety, quality, and professional development.
If you are passionate about science, enjoy working in a laboratory environment, and are looking to build your technical skills while contributing to important biosecurity
outcomes, we encourage you to apply.
