Senior Medical Clinical Coordinator (Clinical Hub)

The Senior Medical Clinical Coordinator (SMCC), is a clinical role based in the Operations Centre (OpCen) that provides specialist level physician advice regarding the clincal aspects of OpCen activities. Key aspects of the role include, specialist level risk stratification, clinical advice to paramedics and the provision of direct medical advice to patients and relevant parties requesting a QAS response.

SMCCs work collaboratively with Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers, the broader QAS organisation and with other health care and emergency services staff to provide high quality, patient centred care to the Queensland community.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

  • Demonstrated specialist level clinical knowledge and experience managing high and low acuity, as well as complex presentations in both hospital and pre-hospital environments.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with internal and external clinicians, partners, stakeholders and work groups.
  • The ability to use advanced communication and interpersonal skills, work as a member of a team and be able to build professional relationships across multiple disciplines.
  • High level planning and organisational skills to effectively manage time and prioritise workload, with the proven ability to manage stress and maintain performance under pressure, without a negative impact on self or others.
  • Experience in Pre-hospital, telehealth or similar role while supporting clinicians of varying disciplines would be beneficial.
  • Ability to support and contribute to a learning environment with emphasis on own and others' professional development.
  • Competence in computer-based technology especially navigating through multiple clinical and clerical systems simultaneously.

The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:

  • Applicants must hold a MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Possession of qualifications and experience appropriate for registration as a Specialist in a critical care speciality (e.g. Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine) or equivalent qualifications, or other relevant speciality disciplines (e.g. Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners);as deemed appropriate by the Commissioner QAS.
  • Appointments to this position will require proof of qualification/s and current registration (specialist and general) under the National Scheme, as determined by the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current or previous clinical experience in a pre-hospital role, commencement or completion of the DipPHRM or equivalent qualifications are considered highly desirable for those candidates working with the High Acuity Response Unit.
  • It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza. Please note, there may be additional vaccination requirements depending on individual circumstances as specified in the QAS Infection Control Framework.
  • Position will require participation in 24 hour rostered shift work (including weekends) and may require participation in on-call duties and undertake overtime.
