Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats. Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.
Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare, respond to and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.
As the Administration Officer (Laboratory Support), you will play a key role in supporting the day to day operations of the Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory (BSL) by providing high quality administrative and client service support. You will be the first point of contact for laboratory clients, responding to enquiries, coordinating information, and ensuring clear communication between clients and laboratory staff. Working closely with the Manager, Senior Project Officer, and laboratory teams, you will contribute to the efficient delivery of laboratory services that support Queensland's animal biosecurity and welfare outcomes. This role is well suited to someone who is organised, proactive, and enjoys working in a busy environment where accuracy, professionalism and teamwork are essential.
As the Administration Officer (Laboratory Support), you will:
• Provide professional client support by responding to enquiries about laboratory services and coordinating correspondence through shared inboxes.
• Deliver administrative and financial support including preparing invoices for laboratory testing, assisting with procurement of laboratory consumables and following up outstanding accounts in collaboration with senior staff.
• Support quality and compliance activities by maintaining laboratory records, assisting with documentation for quality management systems and NATA accreditation and contributing to internal and external review processes.
There are no mandatory qualifications for this role. We are seeking a motivated and well organised individual who can deliver high quality administrative and client service support in a busy laboratory environment. The role requires the ability to work well under pressure, maintain excellent attention to detail, and follow established procedures. Candidates with a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and commitment to supporting biosecurity outcomes are encouraged to apply. Training and support will be provided.
