Join the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) as a Principal Policy Officer in the Business Insights and Enterprise team.

These two AO7 roles offer a unique opportunity to shape evidence-based policies and programs that support Queensland’s small and family businesses. You’ll lead complex policy development, provide strategic advice and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.

We are looking for motivated professionals with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

About the role
As a Principal Policy Officer, you will play a key role in shaping policies and programs that support small and family businesses across Queensland. You will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, where your expertise in research, analysis, and stakeholder engagement will contribute to the development of forwardthinking, practical solutions. 

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of complex policies, programs, and projects that align with organisational priorities and support small and family businesses. 
- Provide strategic advice to senior management to inform decision-making, governance and practical implementation. 
- Conduct advanced research, analysis, and consultation to identify risks, opportunities and evidence-based solutions for policy and program development. 
- Contribute to legislative and regulatory policy processes, including analysing impacts, preparing advice and supporting Cabinet and drafting-related requirements. 
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, fostering collaboration across teams, government agencies and external partners. 
- Prepare high-quality reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence to communicate complex information clearly and accurately.
- Monitor emerging trends, business insights, client feedback and data to ensure policies and programs remain relevant, responsive and forward-looking.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Advanced research, analytical and problem-solving skills to develop evidencebased solutions.
- Strong leadership and project management capabilities to deliver complex policies and programs.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information clearly and accurately.
- Proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, manage competing interests and ensure policies reflect stakeholder needs.
- A commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion, diversity and human rights.

Mandatory Requirements
While there are no mandatory qualifications, possession of a tertiary qualification or significant experience in public sector policy or program development, particularly in areas relevant to small and family businesses is highly desirable.
Consent to undertake a criminal history check prior to any offer of employment.
Other pre-employment checks may include a serious discipline history declaration and proof of eligibility for public sector employment.
