About the role 

As a Compliance Investigations Officer, you will:

  • Conduct desktop investigations, reviewing technical reports and interpreting findings into information notices in line with the Building Act
  • Research provisions in the building and planning legislation
  • Undertake preliminary assessments of building certifier complaints and determine appropriate outcomes
  • Collaborate with internal QBCC stakeholders to inform decision-making
  • Assist with building certifier audits
  • Deliver high-quality customer service, including:
    • Informing certifiers and complainants of case progress and outcomes
    • Explaining decisions and reasoning
    • Responding to requests for further information

This position is based in Brisbane and flexible arrangements can be considered upon application, including working remotely at a Regional QBCC office subject to availability. While the role allows for flexibility in working from home, regular in-person attendance at the QBCC office is a mandatory requirement.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring: 

  • The ability to interpret and apply provisions of building and planning legislation.
  • A solid understanding of investigation principles and practices, including judicial fairness, information privacy principles and burden of proof.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of good decision making and proven experience to support this.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work
  • Excellent record-keeping skills, including the ability to keep contemporaneous records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex information

The following will be highly regarded:

  • Experience using systems or programs associated with complaint management processes and investigations
  • Ability to work collaboratively, contributing to case discussions and sharing investigative insights
  • Experience in a compliance or enforcement environment (particularly building and planning compliance) ideally within local or state government
  • A qualification in investigations (e.g. Certificate IV in Government Investigations or similar)
