Youth Co-Responder Teams provide diversionary support to young offenders subject to youth justice intervention, or those at risk of entering the youth justice system, with the aim of preventing and reducing re-offending. Co-Responders work collaboratively with Queensland Police Service (QPS) to ensure targeted intervention (culturally appropriate and trauma informed) is delivered where the needs of young people and potential benefits to them and the community, are the greatest.

Key responsibilities
As Youth Co Responder, you will specifically:
- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Deliver support services in collaboration with the QPS, by effectively responding to, engaging with, and assessing the risks and needs of children and young people that come to the attention of police, to minimise or prevent the likelihood of involvement or further entrenchment in the youth justice system.
- Proactively and effectively engage with children and young people to deliver support services, including referring young people to programs and agencies; linking young people in with their families and support persons; and connecting with Youth Justice counterparts to inform case management activities.
- Assist the Team Leader to engage with and establish partnerships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders and service providers, including the QPS, in several local areas, to achieve quality casework outcomes.
- Undertake a range of record and information management tasks including maintenance of case records, preparation of reports, performance reporting and data entry to inform casework and accountability.
- Develop strong links to Youth Justice Service Centre counterparts and share information to inform improved court and case management activities in both community and custodial settings.
- Work with Team Leaders to upskill fellow Co Responders through training and professional development activities to develop, maintain and enhance knowledge and competencies (including service referrals and assessing service suitability) to ensure that service delivery is based on contemporary, evidence based, best practice principles and is consistent with current practice trends and objectives.
- Actively participate in and contribute to the good governance and objectives of the region and department.
- Contribute to an organisational culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from other cultures including people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and be responsive to cultural protocols to ensure they are embedded in service delivery.
A valid Blue Card is required, this role is designated as Regulated employment as the position provides support services to children and young people.
