The Inventory Management and Purchasing Officer will undertake the purchasing of forensic laboratory supplies and is responsible for ensuring distribution, stock rotation and stock-takes are conducted in the required manner. The role will also support the Finance and Procurement.

Your key responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of laboratory inventory by regular stocktaking, maintaining records and inventory registers, and any other tasks required to meet this outcome. 
  • Creation of Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders for the ordering of laboratory consumables, and reconciling Purchase Orders with receipt of laboratory consumables. 
  • Creation of goods receipts for stock received, ensuring accuracy of pricing and unit of measures entered.  
  • Ensure that daily perpetual stocktake counts or annual stocktakes (as required) are conducted in compliance with Department of Justice Finance Management Practice Manual (FMPM). 
  • Minimise wastage through effective and regular reviews of stock usage, minimum stock levels and reorder points. 
  • Investigate and report any stock discrepancies, unusual consumables usage and consumables wastage as advised by the laboratories to provide advice on corrective action for the Manager, Finance.
  • Development and ongoing improvement of up-to-date Work instructions, manuals and procedures pertaining to inventory control. 
  • Prepare all monthly reports as required under the FMPM, maintain all inventory and financial records in accordance with Legislative requirements, and comply with delegations, policies, standards, systems and relevant legislation. 
  • Prepare invoices and the accounts payable extract for financial processing and prompt payment of accounts. 
  • Assist scientific and external staff with inventory related requests and liaise with external organisations and suppliers as required. Provide advice on availability and sourcing of laboratory supplies that may not be regularly used or purchased through knowledge of alternative supply processes. 
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory Workplace Health and Safety requirements, including manual handling and emergency procedure training.
