As directed by the Ranger in Charge or 2IC, you will work collaboratively with others to deliver the Hughenden Work Unit's operational and annual work plans. The primary focus of the role is delivering the visitor infrastructure maintenance program and associated capital works. You will also support activities such as pest and fire management, compliance, cultural heritage protection, visitor management and the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment.

Most work will be field-based, but you will also undertake office-based tasks such as administrative duties, management of small projects, and desktop natural and cultural resource management duties. Practical skills and experience in operating and maintaining small power equipment and tools for asset maintenance are essential.

You will provide on-ground supervision to field-based staff and work collaboratively with other Rangers, First Nations partners, volunteers, and external contractors to deliver annual fire, pest, natural resource, visitor, and asset management programs.

As an OO4 Ranger, you will:
* Operate and maintain minor plant and equipment.
* Undertake pest plant and animal control activities.
* Conduct planned burning and bushfire suppression activities.
* Maintain and develop park infrastructure, including visitor facilities.
* Deliver the visitor infrastructure maintenance program and associated capital works.
* Assist in the development and implementation of the annual works program.
* Provide on-ground supervision to field-based staff.
* Undertake law enforcement and compliance duties.
* Provide general information to park visitors and other stakeholders.
* Monitor and promote workplace health and safety.
* Undertake administrative tasks, including record-keeping and procurement.
* Support and promote the interests of First Nations people.
* Manage small projects and support strategic initiatives within the work unit.

You will spend approximately two to three weeks per month travelling for field work, which may include overnight stays and camping in remote and isolated locations under varying climatic conditions. A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required, as work may involve challenging conditions such as hot, cold, or wet weather and navigating steep or rough terrain.

You must hold, or be willing to obtain, a manual driver's licence. While tertiary qualifications are not required, a formal qualification in a relevant discipline and certification to use agricultural chemicals and poisons would be highly regarded.
This role requires a strong personal work ethic, good communication and  interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team, as a supervisor and independently.

Accommodation is available at Blackbraes National Park.
