Strategic Policy and Legislation (SPL) has wide reaching responsibilities that support the operation of Queensland’s justice system and leads the development and coordination of the implementation of proposals for primary and subordinate legislation within the Justice portfolio. SPL is a fast paced, professional office, requiring our staff to have strong organisational and time management skills.
As the Administration Officer. you will provide professional administrative support to the Office of the Assistant Director-General SPL, senior management and other staff within Strategic Policy and Legislation. This may include monitoring, maintaining and coordinating effective office administration systems for human resources, financial management, information management, procurement and executive correspondence with a view to achieving best practice.

About the role
The Office of the Assistant Director-General (OADG) performs a dual role to support the Assistant Director-General and Executive Director within Strategic Policy and Legislation (SPL) and the provision of business and administration support to the Strategic Policy and Legislation business unit. SPL has teams that focus on specific aspects of policy and legislation across criminal and civil law. The OADG team provides a coordination, advisory and facilitation role in liaison with the individual SPL teams to enable the business unit to achieve its objectives and purpose. The OADG is a fast-paced, professional office, requiring our staff to have strong organisational and time management skills.
By working with us, you will be part of a team that has a crucial role to provide administration and business support to the Assistant Director-General and support the delivery of services by SPL through consultation and development of corporate relationships across the department to achieve solutions. You will achieve this through providing accurate support, problem solving, analysis and strategic thinking. To be successful, you will proactively plan ahead, identify opportunities for business improvement and work collaboratively within your team to drive customer-focused outcomes.
What you will bring
To thrive in this role, you will need:
- The ability to provide high level administrative support to senior management and other legal officers whilst maintaining accuracy and confidentiality of information.
- Experience in the use of computerised information systems at a high level, including electronic document management system (eDOCS), SAP, Aurion, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams and Expense Me corporate card system.
- The ability to interpret instructions quickly, prioritise conflicting work demands and work under pressure to ensure tasks are completed within given timeframes.
- You think and plan ahead, have high attention to detail, and look to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative, positive working relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
- Structure messages clearly and succinctly, both orally and in writing, and adapts your communication style to the audience.
