Your responsibilities

As the Principal Advisor, Workforce Strategy, you will

  • Provide evidence-based advice on workforce risks and opportunities to shape strategies that address challenges and align with the department's strategic objectives.
  • Influence decision-makers on workforce priorities and initiatives to promote data driven decision-making and workforce planning maturity.
  • Manage delivery of multiple workforce initiatives, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and timeframes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure alignment of workforce strategies with departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Insights team and other partners to integrate workforce data into strategic and operational planning.
  • Evaluate and improve workforce planning processes and strategies to address evolving business needs and external trends.
  • Develop, implement, and report on workforce initiatives that support the department's long-term goals.
  • Lead change management efforts to embed new workforce practices and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, and presentations to support informed decision-making and communicate workforce strategies effectively.

What are we looking for?

The position requires an applicant who can demonstrate:

  • A proactive, strategic mindset with strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills, and a proven ability to influence decision-makers, lead change, and deliver innovative workforce plans and initiatives that align with the department's long-term goals.
  • Expertise in managing complex projects end-to-end, balancing competing priorities, and embedding workforce planning practices.
  • The ability to provide clear, evidence-based advice informed by workforce data and contemporary insights, and to prepare high-quality written materials, including reports, briefing notes, and presentations.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, with the flexibility to adapt to evolving business needs and external trends.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate within a team and engage with diverse stakeholders to build strong relationships and achieve outcomes.
  • Leadership capability to guide and support a high-performing team, empowering members to take ownership of their work and resolve challenges independently.
  • Strong consultation and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide strategic advice to senior leaders and stakeholders across the department and public sector.
  • A commitment to fostering a workplace culture of equity, diversity, respect, and inclusion, while actively seeking feedback for continuous development.
