As Managing Principal Lawyer, you will lead a small team in managing prosecutions and statutory appeal and tribunal related litigation, relating to the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP). You will lead critical legal advice on complex NFAEP matters to executive leaders and appear as an advocate and instruct legal service providers in various courts and tribunals.
The Business and Corporate Partnership (BCP) division provides strategic advice, leads key programs implementation and delivers corporate services that enable the department to achieve its objectives.

Join In-house Legal as Managing Principal Lawyer and provide expert legal advice and representation supporting the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP) priorities. Leading a small, professional legal team, you will contribute to high-impact prosecution and litigation work relating to complex NFAEP relating issues, under the Biosecurity Act 2014.
In this role, you will lead a small team to manage complex prosecutions and statutory appeal and tribunal related litigation, advising Executive Leadership on complex and sensitive legal matters, and mentoring junior colleagues to ensure service delivery within critical deadlines.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, sound judgement and the ability to deliver clear legal advice in complex and sensitive environments. You will influence senior stakeholders, support team capability, and ensure effective, timely legal outcomes across a diverse caseload.
This process will be used to fill vacancies across both the NFAEP and broader Appeals and Prosecutions team. The broader Appeals and Prosecution team undertake a range of complex prosecutions and associated appeals for offences under legislation administered by multiple agencies. This not only includes prosecutions in the Magistrate's court, and criminal appeals in District Court and Court of Appeal, but a range of portfolio specific activities such as Land Valuation appeals in the Land Court, Supreme Court judicial review proceeding and Animal Welfare prosecutions for the RSPCA.
