Crown Law plays a critical role as the Queensland Government's centralised legal service provider, delivering strategic legal advice and representation across all areas of government. Crown Law is a self-funded division of the Department of Justice, and operates akin to a private law firm.
Reporting to the Crown Solicitor, the Chief Operating Officer will lead the business and corporate operations of Crown Law, ensuring the organisation is well positioned to deliver contemporary, efficient and financially sustainable legal services. This executive leadership opportunity requires both strategic insight and a strong operational orientation, with responsibility for the corporate functions that enable Crown Law's lawyers to deliver high-quality services to government clients.
As a member of the ELT, you will work closely with the Crown Solicitor, senior leaders across Crown Law, the Department of Justice to strengthen organisational capability and improve operational performance as well as build collaborative relationships with Queensland Government stakeholders. With responsibility for approximately 40 FTE and five direct reports, you will be a leader who can understand the day-to-day pressures of a professional services environment, build collaborative relationships and ensure corporate services are responsive, practical and aligned to the needs of the practice.
A key priority will be driving strategic projects that modernise systems, processes, governance and service delivery. You will bring disciplined project management capability to Crown Law's transformation agenda, leading initiatives that build capacity, improve efficiency and support innovation. Your ability to move between strategy and execution will be critical, as this role requires someone who can shape direction, engage people in change and ensure outcomes are delivered.
We are seeking an accomplished executive with experience leading comparable corporate, operational and business support functions as part of an ELT. You will have led multidisciplinary teams in complex organisations and bring a demonstrated track record in operational improvement, business transformation, project delivery, governance and organisational capacity building. Experience in a professional services, legal, regulatory or public sector environment will be highly regarded, along with an understanding of the expectations, accountabilities and stakeholder dynamics that come with operating within government.
As COO you will have the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to how Crown Law supports government, bringing structure, momentum and commercial discipline to a specialist legal practice with a clear public purpose.
