Job details

Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) plays a leadership role in the biosecurity system in collaboration with its stakeholders. BQ leads the Queensland Government's efforts to protect our way of life, environment, biodiversity, human and animal health, industries and economy from plant and animal pest and disease threats.

Through supporting the collective efforts of our stakeholders and all Queenslanders, BQ will continue to protect our state and Australia from emerging plant and animal pests and diseases and effectively manage existing ones.

Animal Biosecurity and Welfare (ABW) supports the BQ's efforts to prevent, prepare,  respond to, and recover from diseases threatening livestock industries and maintaining access to markets. Our people work together to help mitigate biosecurity risks, uphold standards for animal welfare and animal management and lead the overall DPI response to biosecurity emergency incidents to achieve outcomes consistent with the Department's strategic direction for leadership in animal welfare, exhibited animal, animal management and animal ethics policy and service delivery.

Join our frontline veterinary team and use your knowledge of veterinary science and experience as a manager to lead and promote an animal biosecurity and welfare system that protects Queensland's economy, environment, lifestyle and human and animal health.

As the Manager of the frontline Veterinary Operations team, you will:

• provide professional skills and knowledge to lead a team of veterinarians across the state, that conduct animal disease investigations and surveillance, undertake analysis using epidemiological principles and provide animal welfare advice.
• drive and maintain effective local relationships, networks and partnerships with veterinary professionals, and wider government, industry and community stakeholders to promote good animal biosecurity and welfare practice.
• maintain a psychosocially safe and supportive work environment where individual and team performance is recognised and valued.
  
  

There are some qualifications that we see as essential. You must possess a:

It is a mandatory requirement for a professional officer to possess an Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in Veterinary Science that is eligible for registration in Queensland.

• A current 'C' class drivers' licence.
• Registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland.
