The Senior Program Officer (SPO) – Professional Carer Coordinator assists with the development, implementation and coordination of services relating to the Professional Foster Care program pilot. The role will work collaboratively with department funded Professional Foster Care services who provide direct support to Professional Foster Carers and based upon carer needs, will make referrals to the SPO – Professional Carer Coordinator position.

As the Senior Program Officer, Professional Carer Coordinator you will:

  • Develop, manage and review a bespoke work program that incorporates individual case coordination and support to Professional Foster Carers who provide effective care for children and young people with complex and high risk behavioural, emotional, psychological, disability and/or mental health needs.
  • Maintain alignment with the Strengthening Families Protecting Children Framework for Practice, the core elements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principles, the department's Strategic Plan 2025-2029 and Safer Children, Safer Communities plan.
  • Negotiate, consult and develop strong collaborative relationships with government and non-government agencies and peak bodies including Education, Health, Mental Health, Youth Justice, and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and its funded partners, to ensure the needs of the Professional Foster Care target cohort are met.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and review the implementation of program initiatives including information systems, databases, policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to the pilot program.
  • Prepare and analyse qualitative and quantitative data and advise internal stakeholders about trends, outcomes, lessons learned and contribute to the Professional Foster Care Community of Practice to support skill development and the Professional Foster Care evaluation process to improve pilot program outcomes.
  • Prepare documentation relevant to the SPO - Professional Carer Coordinator role, including information resources, letters, reports, meeting minutes, PowerPoint presentations and associated written communications.
