About the role
As a Senior Lawyer within Legal Aid Queensland's First Advice Contact Team, you will provide timely, high-quality legal advice and minor assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders experiencing complex family, criminal and/or civil law issues.
Working across phone, videoconference and face-to-face channels, you'll help clients understand their legal options, navigate challenging circumstances and access appropriate support services. You will also conduct specialist advice clinics, prepare legal correspondence and submissions, contribute to the development of legal information resources, and support policy, law reform and service delivery initiatives.
In addition, you will play an important leadership role by mentoring colleagues, conducting quality reviews, delivering professional development programs and assisting the Principal Lawyer with coaching, performance management and team leadership activities.
About you
We're seeking an experienced and motivated legal practitioner with strong knowledge of family, criminal and/or civil law and a genuine commitment to improving access to justice for vulnerable Queenslanders. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to explain complex legal issues clearly and effectively to a diverse range of clients, including those with complex needs, using trauma-informed practice principles. You will have sound analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong legal drafting skills and the capacity to prepare high-quality written advice, submissions and legal resources. A collaborative approach, commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to support and develop others through mentoring, coaching and constructive feedback will be highly regarded.
